The story behind the stories

Make time
for away.

AwayWeek is an independent American travel journal. We're starting with Arizona, one thoughtful story at a time.

A sense of place

Away is a state of mind.

A day outside your routine. A long weekend in a new city. A week with nothing to do but be somewhere else. AwayWeek is for all of it. The name is an invitation to make room for travel, however much time you have.

A whole country. A closer look.

We want to know more than where to book. What gives a place its character? Which neighborhood feels right? What makes a day worth remembering? Those are the questions behind AwayWeek.

Our first chapter is Arizona.

From Sedona's red-rock landscapes to desert cities and pine-covered mountains, we're beginning with a state that has more than one story to tell. Other states will follow through research, not a rush to fill a map.

Depth before volume.

Our first articles are still ahead of us. We'll take time to research, name our sources, and make recommendations that are genuinely useful. No made-up hotel reviews. No pretending to have visited places we haven't.

Recommendations, not a sales pitch.

When it fits the story, we'll link to stays through Expedia and experiences through Viator. We may earn a commission from qualifying bookings, and we'll say so. Research comes first; affiliate links are optional.
